Dodgers Win World Series; Turner Tests Positive
The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series late Tuesday night, behind a strong showing from the bullpen. Starter Tony Gonsolin went just an inning and a third, so the relievers were heavily relied on. Manager Dave Roberts used six relievers to get through seven and a third innings, and they were all dominant. They combined for twelve strikeouts, and lefty Alex Wood stood out, as he threw two scoreless innings. Julio Urias closed the game out, as he went two and a third scoreless innings, with four punch outs to go along with his great performance.
Star outfielder Mookie Betts had a terrific game, as he went 2-4, with a solo home run. Although the Dodgers were up 2-1 before Mookie’s shot, he provided some much needed insurance for Urias. Corey Seager won both the NLCS MVP and World Series MVP, making him the first player since Madison Bumgarner in 2014 to win both awards in the same season.
Arguably the biggest news in baseball is about Justin Turner. He had to exit the game early, as the results came back during the game that he tested positive for COVID-19. However, when the Dodgers won, he broke MLB protocol, and ran out on the field with his teammates to celebrate after the game, without even wearing a mask. Turner has been on the Dodgers for seven seasons, and was instrumental in Los Angeles’ success in the regular season and Posteason in 2020, but that is no excuse to break protocol in my opinion. I understand how his excitement could overcome him, but his actions put others at risk. Once more details come out about this matter over the next few days, I will reflect on this issue more.
